After explaining some of the ideas to the community it made sense to visualise them. Some ideas were suggested by the community themselves and therefore worked well. Once the ideas started they began to keep flowing. Some were based on food, some based on pop culture and some were based on word play or puns. The name of the Axe would need to be thought out as this can also influence the player to buy the item. Again funny and playful ideas are needed for this.
The game features a harvesting system, in which players are able to use their pickaxe to destroy scenery and gain materials to build a structure. This is to protect themselves or to reach areas they otherwise would not be able to. In-game the items often make noises or have some sort of animation about them. This would also have to be a consideration when designing the pickaxes.
The idea of "The Pick-le" came from a pop culture reference to the show 'Rick and Morty'. This pick would squelch when it hits an item and would be animated to drip pickle juice.
The Frankfurter was created off the back of the idea for The Pick-le. It is a similar shape and often cocktail sausages are on a stick which would give them a handle to be used as a pick.
The "Oh Balls" pick was designed as there is not a lot in terms of sportswear on the game so it could be a gap in the market.
The "Pick-Man" pick is again a pop culture reference to the game 'Pac Man'. It would be sat on some sort of joystick, which is how people would have enjoyed playing the original Pac Man game. The pick could be animated so that Pac Man's mouth opens and closes and when things are being harvested with the pick is would make the classic "Wakka-Wakka" noise from the Pac Man game.
The third pick on this section is based off a trend that people love watermelon. There's a popular viral video with people talking about Watermelone, spoken as if it has an E on the end as there is emphasis on the last section of the word.
These two picks are both superhero themed, matching the new theme for Fortnite's upcoming season. The Pick on the left is based on the Marvel Comic's character Thor. In the upcoming film for Marvel Thor gains a new axe called Stormbreaker, this would fit right into Fortnite as part of the game is that there is a storm closing in, players must move inside the safe zone to avoid the storm. Each time this pick is struck it would make a crack of thunder and could have a lightning animation coming off it.
The pick on the right is based off DC Comic's Batman. Often he has a gadget for any scenario so why wouldn't he have a gadget for this game. The Bat-Pick would be shaped like one of Batman's signature Batarangs on top and a baseball bat on the bottom half. This is why the other name could simple be "The Bat". The bat would make a noise similar to that of a baseball bat hitting a baseball.
These two designs play off the space theme that has also be hinted at and feature in this season of the game.
The pick on the left is based of the comets that we have seen falling throughout this season and will feature a glowing animation. The name is yet to be decided from the above choices.
The second pick is a giant ray gun, the noise could be a retro "zapping" sound. The name again is yet to be decided but could play off a pop culture reference from the film Austin Powers with the name "The Laserrr".
These last designs would maybe be ones for the Halloween theme of the game. Each feature body parts and have puns for names. The first "The Tooth Pick" featuring a tooth on the end of a piece of wood. The second "Bone to Pick" or I've got a... using bones as a pickaxe. Finally the third, uses an Arm and a Leg and uses the name "Pricey"
