The essay seems to have really opened something in my head not taking design for granted I just seemed to relate to all the points. Below is what I took away from the essay and what I hope will help me within my design in general not just for publication design.
Don't just throw out any content. Make it mean something practice and don't just put out what 'looks good'.
Make mistakes, it's how you learn. Make as many as you can and take from them to influence your future design sometimes a mistake isn't a necessarily bad and can better your work.
Start with a question this will help to make the content within the book clear.
Designers are just as responsible for the content as anyone else.
How do you tell someone their idea isn't great that you the designer need to change a few things or everything. You shouldn't just neglect or refuse a job find a way to help the client.
Do it yourself you can't just wait for it to come to you you need to go out and get it, you need to make the difference.
If the brief lacks clarity be clear yourself. Don't blame someone else rectify it you're as much to blame if you do nothing and complain.
Design is influenced by content they need to be parallel, running side by side.
If you do nothing you are still influential in the design process as by not changing anything you are setting what is already done. Be imaginative.
Dream big and drive smoothly, once you have a design idea lead with it let it evolve and you will find the process much easier to control. Think about all the aspects and how they will all fit together and influence each other.
