- positive spin
- Funny
- stronger target audience
- take the piss out of design aspect
- think about the market how to get it out there
- dig at the takeaways
- make a statement
- limited editions?
- show off the juxtaposition
The general idea is that the book would suit a larger target audience and will be a bit more fun rather than step by step guide only suited to specific takeaways. A positive spin would also be put on the idea of Preston having the unhealthiest high street in Britain.
On the other hand after speaking to Nick our tutor who, didn't believe Preston had the unhealthiest high street in Britain and questioned the idea behind the book helped push the idea further rather than settling and staying comfortable with an unrefined idea. Nick questioned if the idea of making a joke about our eating habits would actually shock people from other countries as most do not think that we are this gourmet society. From this the idea would did not stray too much from the original it would still be making a joke but more about the fact that outsiders to our country would often stereotype us as well spoken 'posh' tea drinkers so it will show what the majority of us are like as Brits and see the back streets (the shadows) of Britain and no the front some people may see.
Within the publication there will be a juxtaposition between content and design; the content will be pictures of takeaways taken in a style inspired by the likes of Martin Parr and Boring Postcards, with a brief deconstruction of the design of the shopfront. The design of the publication will be that of a well designed 'Coffee Table' Book, something you would like to put on display and that the content could really contrast.
The audience the publication is aiming to reach is young creatives/designers looking to read about a simple understanding of design and why certain takeaways use the styles they do, what better place to do this but down the unhealthiest high street in Britain. This book, because of the location the focus will also appeal to Prestonians to learn about design within their city. The target audience is not that of a high class and not one expected to spend a lot on a publication such as this so selling the book at £25 will suit the market but still looking into printing and binding methods will make sure the book can be produced for a lower price than most coffee table books whilst still keeping a high standard of design throughout the publication.
After researching the production of the book a little further mock ups and sketches will be created to make sure the publication is described as above. Once created a press pack will be produced, including high quality images of the publication and brief description of what to expect from it.
