OUGD406 - Licence to Print Money, Research

Above are a lot of the world's different banknotes, the first thing that stands out to me is how colourful the whole image looks. Money is known to be something that has almost taken over our lives, we're almost consumed by it people say but one of the main reasons is because it looks so attractive. The bright colours and the intricate design that is put into it how can someone ignore something that has had so much work put into the design. The note needs to be well thought out and look attractive otherwise people will refrain form using it. It is no coincidence it feels so good to hold money obviously the feeling that you can purchase something with that money is part of the feeling. What I'm saying is there's more to it if you were given a pile of goo and told you can go and purchase anything you want with that disgusting pile of goo you wouldn't be too happy holding it and would much rather you didn't have it. You don't want to part with money because it feels good and also makes people feel powerful therefore the design should reflect that.

Maybe it's because I'm british and I have been using the almost same designed notes since I was young but I don't get excited by our design. I almost forget it's colourful when talking about other notes as if they're monopoly money because they're so bright and fun. I have also been handling money for a good few years in the sense of taking it but I never get to spend it after it enters my till. I just feel the british bank note is quite boring, I said in a previous post that a lot of the current currency celebrates history but not much celebrates the now or even the future.

These notes were designed by Travis Purrington, he wanted to revamp the US Banknote. I have included this design because it celebrates recent achievements like the space landing American achievements sure but it still includes what I have been talking about banknotes currently not including. The notes again use a lot of colour and are pieces of art in their own right. I believe one of the issues in this idea is that we're making new groundbreaking achievements so often therefore the notes would feel outdated quickly. Another problem that goes alongside the last is how do you decide on what to put on the notes. You could improve this idea by releasing the notes as sets every few years or all at once as collectibles, people may argue that the notes could be easily counterfeited with many different designs out there. I would say if the security features and colours were kept the same then it shouldn't be too hard to stay on top of the security and may even be more secure as people will check more.

I have included some more designs above that I found interesting especially the bottom that looks to use some UV light feature to reveal more to the note. Hidden features within the notes would be a very interesting idea and would give them something more than just the colours to look pleasing.
