OUGD406 - Secret 7" Initial ideas

I took my ideas further from the initial brain storms and tried sketching them out.

I feel I am most likely to move forward with this idea but will be looking into the other songs to explore all avenues. The ideas behind the drawing were taken from time, love and the lyrics of the song. My favourite idea so far is the use of life being put into ledger lines to make it seem like "life is like a song" which is one of the first lines of the song.

John Lennon's Imagine, I took the idea of using typography and crossing out some of the topics Lennon talks about us loving without in the song. Clouds were to signify day dreaming (imagining), the piano is the instrument used so I though I could take the keys and sort of skew them slightly so you wouldn't instantly know what they were. I also took Lennon's portrait apart to see if I could strip it back to just a few shapes that when looked into you would be able to see the idea.

The V is a significant feature in Chvrches name so I thought I could emphasise this but the idea may be too obvious and not very secret. I was creating waves and swirls like the sky or the see that would be different shades of blue across the cover.

Ritcher's Dream 3 was created to help people sleep and he actually set up lots of hammocks for people to sleep in while they listened to the song. I thought this would be a nice touch and could still hold some secrecy. The hammock could actually be photographed in a woodland area between two trees.

The moon seems like a very popular idea for around peoples album covers so I thought I would stay away from that but still explored the idea of it shining through clouds. The balloons were to let go of worry, the black squares were to signify worry as little dark blocks of stress. The eyes were taken from a line in the lyrics so I thought I could do a double exposure of eyes both open and closed on an image as if even when he's asleep he's still worried and keeping his eyes open.

In the lyrics of The Less I Know The Better they repeat superman over and over at the end so I thought I could use the question marks within the superman logo. The clock without hands is to signify forever as you wouldn't be able to keep track of time. In the music video paint is used to drip over different people and objects so the cover could just completely be paint dripped down.

Art school could take on some very obvious ideas using paints and bright colours, I thought I could also play on the name and use different pots of Jam. The type was using a phrase 'Too Cool For School'.
