Defining the Brief - OUGD505, Studio Brief 02

Studio Brief 02 - Product, Range and Distribution

Part one is to gain both primary and secondary research for a chosen issue this should be both practical and theoretical. This will be the most important section as it will lay the foundations of the project and will allow for the brief to develop from the research conducted. Everything created within the second part should be backed up by information gained in this section.

Part two is to create design work based on the information collected about the chosen issue in an attempt to solve or help solve the issue. This will demonstrate the ability to tap into the market potential for socially, politically and ethically-driven design. This can be conducted in many different ways.

Considerations

  • materials relating to an issue-led campaign (this could be one affiliated to an established organisation or a more ‘guerilla’ approach)
  • a poster series
  • a booklet/publication/manifesto
  • a web/digital platform
  • placards, banners or a set of badges
  • a range of products or merchandise that communicate your identified core message

As a few points have already been looked into the project has been taken down to look into social media and it's affects on mental health. As social media is not the only cause of mental health this should be stressed as a cause but not the only cause. The campaign is to look at the effects that social media and technology can have on an individuals mental health and make them aware of this. As we live in a digital age the side effects should be acknowledged and shown.

This project will focus on the stigma behind mental health and how it can be talked about and dealt with. Social media is such a huge platform nowadays, it is used for a lot of good but a lot of social media has caused new problems like trolling and internet bullying. The project will look into how social media can be used as a good platform to spread information and awareness and help people come together rather than move further apart. Another point that will be touched upon within this project is education, how can we be taught about mental health. There is a lot of stigma behind talking about mental health and the subject is only really touched upon openly at university level.

Things to consider:

  • Contact people for opinions on mental health - ask appropriately
  • Look into new platforms like YouTube  and other social media to raise awareness
  • Contact charities to help campaign and gain research
  • Articles and reports on mental health
