Creative Networks, Posters and Flyers - OUGD603

To get a brief idea before going straight to digital some quick sketches were made. The main focus is to show off the artists work and draw the eye of the viewer to th information.

This was the first poster mocked up for the brief. The image used in the background is that of Jake Chapman's. The artist is quite controversial and therefore his work is hard to put on a poster meant to be seen by all different age ranges and audiences. This meant picking imagery that would be suited to this. As I stated previously the design suits a clean modern look that can be changed easily to suit different speakers and stays consistent. The white box, as stated in the research can help to make the information pop out but making it slightly transparent means that the image is not lost behind.

This is standard flyer that would be used for the visiting speaker to advertise part of their work and tell the audience key information about the event. Once again small details will be changed on the design to give a bit of difference in each while still keeping a general theme.

Although it was not asked for I designed another a flyer to create a sort of plan for the year that could be kept out all year round so people could stay up to date.

Creative Networks, Research - OUGD603

As this project is going to be produced in such a short time a large amount of research cannot be done but it can still be thorough. Using my prior knowledge of layout, type and advertising I can quite easily get to designing. It would still be good to look into some previous designs and some other poster designs to make sure the final outcomes are current and really eye catching.

Looking at the past examples you can see that the information is kept quite concise and and centred on the first two but on the last is quite lengthy laid out slightly differently. The first two designs capture the eye a lot better than the last one although artwork from the speaker is a more prominent. In the first two the speaker's name is large and bold which again grabs your attention better than the last. The first two posters are better for an advertisement meaning you can glance quickly and gain the information you need whereas the last lacks the means of holding the viewers attention.

Below are some poster designs found on pinterest. These are just a few of the favourites based on layout, colour and how well the information jumps out and grabs the attention of the viewer. The rest can be found here: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/jkes_creative/posters/ .

Most if not all the designs have the information centered and if they are not they have been laid out in such a way that it brings out the information to catch the eye of the viewer. A lot of the posters use framing around imagery or on imagery to do this and often use a full scaled image unlike the past designs for the creative networks events. This way a huge image can draw in the eye with the use of colour and it also advertises what the event is about. Using cut outs on a frame incorporates the images a bit more rather than cutting it off and a block white box can help to make information pop.

Creative Networks - OUGD603

Creative Networks is a department set up within university to invite professionals in and give a talk about their work. As they need advertising for these events they ask students each year to create posters and flyers. The brief this year asks for an MP4 loop of the Creative Networks logo. I plan to create flyers based around a modern clean style that will be able to adapt to each speaker this will mean the designs can be used and created easily each for each new speaker. The loop will also stay simple but will bring in an artsy look which will help show off what Creative Networks is about.

As the brief is in for the following Monday I have given myself the task of creating this brief in a short time frame. This will be an interesting challenge but should help me to get used to real world situations in which, I could be asked to change briefs or create briefs in times similar to this giving me a real creative push.

Above are examples of work used in previous years.

Brief Plan and Manifesto - OUGD603

Below is a manifesto I plan to stick to throughout this year and this unit. The briefs laid out below are just ideas and at the moment are mostly roughed in for deadlines. The plan and briefs will most likely and hopefully change over the year to show my growth and development of the projects.
